Traveling kinks in cubic nonlinear Ginzburg-Landau equations
Nonlinear cubic Euler-Lagrange equations of motion in the traveling variable
are usually derived from Ginzburg-Landau free energy functionals frequently
encountered in several fields of physics. Many authors considered in the past
damped versions of such equations with the damping term added by hand
simulating the friction due to the environment. It is known that even in this
damped case kink solutions can exist. By means of a factorization method, we
provide analytic formulas for several possible kink solutions of such equations
of motion in the undriven and constant field driven cases, including the
recently introduced Riccati parameter kinks which were not considered
previously in such a context. The latter parameter controls the delay of the

Supersymmetry of FRW barotropic cosmologies
Barotropic FRW cosmologies are presented from the standpoint of
nonrelativistic supersymmetry. First, we reduce the barotropic FRW system of
differential equations to simple harmonic oscillator differential equations.
Employing the factorization procedure, the solutions of the latter equations
are divided into the two classes of bosonic (nonsingular) and fermionic
(singular) cosmological solutions. We next introduce a coupling parameter
denoted by K between the two classes of solutions and obtain barotropic
cosmologies with dissipative features acting on the scale factors and spatial
curvature of the universe. The K-extended FRW equations in comoving time are
presented in explicit form in the low coupling regime. The standard barotropic

Observation of Very High Energy Gamma Rays from HESS J1804-216 with CANGAROO-III Telescopes
We observed the unidentified TeV gamma-ray source HESS J1804-216 with the
CANGAROO-III atmospheric Cerenkov telescopes from May to July in 2006. We
detected very high energy gamma rays above 600 GeV at the 10 sigma level in an
effective exposure of 76 hr. We obtained a differential flux of
(5.0+/-1.5_{stat}+/-1.6_{sys})\times 10^{-12}(E/1 TeV)^{-\alpha}
cm^{-2}s^{-1}TeV^{-1} with a photon index \alpha of 2.69 +/- 0.30_{stat} +/-
0.34_{sys}, which is consistent with that of the H.E.S.S. observation in 2004.
We also confirm the extended morphology of the source. By combining our result
with multi-wavelength observations, we discuss the possible counterparts of
HESS J1804-216 and the radiation mechanism based on leptonic and hadronic
processes for a supernova remnant and a pulsar wind nebula.Comment: 11 pages, 12 figures, Accepted in Ap
Radio emission from Supernova Remnants
The explosion of a supernova releases almost instantaneously about 10^51 ergs
of mechanic energy, changing irreversibly the physical and chemical properties
of large regions in the galaxies. The stellar ejecta, the nebula resulting from
the powerful shock waves, and sometimes a compact stellar remnant, constitute a
supernova remnant (SNR). They can radiate their energy across the whole
electromagnetic spectrum, but the great majority are radio sources. Almost 70
years after the first detection of radio emission coming from a SNR, great
progress has been achieved in the comprehension of their physical
characteristics and evolution. We review the present knowledge of different
aspects of radio remnants, focusing on sources of the Milky Way and the
Magellanic Clouds, where the SNRs can be spatially resolved. We present a brief
overview of theoretical background, analyze morphology and polarization
properties, and review and critical discuss different methods applied to
determine the radio spectrum and distances. The consequences of the interaction
between the SNR shocks and the surrounding medium are examined, including the
question of whether SNRs can trigger the formation of new stars. Cases of
multispectral comparison are presented. A section is devoted to reviewing
recent results of radio SNRs in the Magellanic Clouds, with particular emphasis
on the radio properties of SN 1987A, an ideal laboratory to investigate
dynamical evolution of an SNR in near real time. The review concludes with a
summary of issues on radio SNRs that deserve further study, and analyzing the
prospects for future research with the latest generation radio telescopes.Comment: Revised version. 48 pages, 15 figure
Antimicrobial consumption and resistance in adult hospital inpatients in 53 countries:results of an internet-based global point prevalence survey
Summary: Background: The Global Point Prevalence Survey (Global-PPS) established an international network of hospitals to measure antimicrobial prescribing and resistance worldwide. We aimed to assess antimicrobial prescribing and resistance in hospital inpatients. Methods: We used a standardised surveillance method to collect detailed data about antimicrobial prescribing and resistance from hospitals worldwide, which were grouped by UN region. The internet-based survey included all inpatients (adults, children, and neonates) receiving an antimicrobial who were on the ward at 0800 h on one specific day between January and September, 2015. Hospitals were classified as primary, secondary, tertiary (including infectious diseases hospitals), and paediatric hospitals. Five main ward types were defined: medical wards, surgical wards, intensive-care units, haematology oncology wards, and medical transplantation (bone marrow or solid transplants) wards. Data recorded included patient characteristics, antimicrobials received, diagnosis, therapeutic indication according to predefined lists, and markers of prescribing quality (eg, whether a stop or review date were recorded, and whether local prescribing guidelines existed and were adhered to). We report findings for adult inpatients. Findings: The Global-PPS for 2015 included adult data from 303 hospitals in 53 countries, including eight lower-middle-income and 17 upper-middle-income countries. 86 776 inpatients were admitted to 3315 adult wards, of whom 29 891 (34·4%) received at least one antimicrobial. 41 213 antimicrobial prescriptions were issued, of which 36 792 (89·3%) were antibacterial agents for systemic use. The top three antibiotics prescribed worldwide were penicillins with β-lactamase inhibitors, third-generation cephalosporins, and fluoroquinolones. Carbapenems were most frequently prescribed in Latin America and west and central Asia. Of patients who received at least one antimicrobial, 5926 (19·8%) received a targeted antibacterial treatment for systemic use, and 1769 (5·9%) received a treatment targeting at least one multidrug-resistant organism. The frequency of health-care-associated infections was highest in Latin America (1518 [11·9%]) and east and south Asia (5363 [10·1%]). Overall, the reason for treatment was recorded in 31 694 (76·9%) of antimicrobial prescriptions, and a stop or review date in 15 778 (38·3%). Local antibiotic guidelines were missing for 7050 (19·2%) of the 36 792 antibiotic prescriptions, and guideline compliance was 77·4%. Interpretation: The Global-PPS showed that worldwide surveillance can be accomplished with voluntary participation. It provided quantifiable measures to assess and compare the quantity and quality of antibiotic prescribing and resistance in hospital patients worldwide. These data will help to improve the quality of antibiotic prescribing through education and practice changes, particularly in low-income and middle-income countries that have no tools to monitor antibiotic prescribing in hospitals. We present arcsecond-resolution 6 cm continuum observations of potential massive-star formation sites in the vicinity of the W30 supernova remnant. Nine sources are detected, several of which could be ultracompact H II regions. One of these, G8.139-0.026 has a cometary morphology. Of the eight IRAS sources observed, only three have nearby (< 1 # ) radio continuum sources. The low detection rate of continuum counterparts for the IRAS sources suggests that this relatively young supernova remnant may have initiated massive star formation, as indicated by the presence of infrared sources, but there has been insu#cient time for the formation process to finish, as indicated by the dearth of radio continuum sources
